Weekly Outline 3/5-3/9
Monday - Unit 3Activity:
Check your answers to the measurements you made yesterday against this answer key. Don't expect your answers to be exactly the same as the key, but you should be within 0.005 in. Warm up: Watch "Mean, Median and Mode Toads" Video Activity: -Review PPT 3.5 Summary Statistics -Activity 3.5 Applied Statistics students practice calculating mean median mode and SD with a given data set by hand. -Activity 3.5 Answer Key HOMEWORK: Complete Activity 3.5 Applied Statistics |
Tuesday - Unit 3Activity:
-Quiz: Unit Conversions -C&R HW Activity 3.2 Unit Conversions against answer key. Open this spreadsheet and select the tab at the bottom corresponding to your class period. Then enter the LARGEST WHEEL DIAMETER you measured from Activity 3.3 and enter it in the spreadsheet next to your name. If your measurement doesn't seem like the others, don't change it, it's part of the data and the activity. -Use data from Activity 3.3 Largest Outside Wheel Diameter and complete the a data analysis of the wheel diameter with the class. When creating your bins, use ranges for each interval such that you end up with 6-8 bins. When you are finished, answer the following Conclusion Questions in your spreadsheet and submit to google classroom. Conclusion Questions: 1. How can statistics of a product’s dimensions be used to assess the quality of the product? 2. In which phase(s) of a design process might statistics be most useful? Why? HW: If you do not finish in class you must complete for HW. |
Wed - Unit 3 |
Thursday - Unit 3 |
Friday - Unit 3Activity:
Students will collect their classmates heights and complete Activity 3.7 Statistical Analysis using student height data. Student Height Data Sheet -PPT: 3.8 The Empirical Rule we'll review the "Normal Distribution" and how to use standard deviation to make predictions. HOMEWORK: Print out a copy of the spreadsheet for Activity 3.5 and glue/tape in your notebook. Finish Data Analysis Spreadsheet and the Conclusion Questions in Activity 3.7. |
Weekly Outline 3/12-3/16
Monday - Unit 3Activity:
-PPT 3.8.A Precision Accuracy Measurement - students follow along with the teacher to do part 1 using provided credit card measurements. -Complete the data gathering portion of part 2 by measuring the gauge block and entering into the shared spreadsheet -Activity 3.8.A Precision Accuracy Measurement -Guage Spreadsheet Quiz on Mean, Median, Mode, Accuracy, Precision, Error, Standard Deviation, and reading a dial caliper on THURSDAY! |
Tuesday - Unit 3 |
Wed - Unit 3Warm up:
Activity: -Activity 3.6 Instant Challenge: Flying Machine. Students build and test their device. -Create a spreadsheet to analyze the data. -PPT: 3.6 Inferential Statistics (this PowerPoint is mostly the same as 3.5, but we'll eview the section that compares population SD to sample SD which you'll need in order to answer 3.6 conclusion questions) -Present your Fling Machine device and discuss your data with the class. What does your data show about the reliability of your device? Quiz on Mean, Median, Mode, Accuracy, Precision, Error, Standard Deviation, and reading a dial caliper on MONDAY! |
Thursday - Unit 3Open the document Activity 3.6 Instant Challenge: Flying Machine. Follow the instructions to complete the data analysis by creating a spreadsheet similar to the one you made last week.
EACH student must create and submit his or her own spreadsheet with data analysis and conclusion questions to Google Classroom before the end of the period today. Quiz on Mean, Median, Mode, Accuracy, Precision, Error, Standard Deviation, and reading a dial caliper MONDAY! |
Friday - Unit 3Tackett is out to take students to the STEAM TANK competition. Use the class period to complete your data analysis and presentation for Activity 3.6 Instant Challenge: Flying Machine.
Turn your presentation into Google classroom Sunday night! Quiz on Mean, Median, Mode, Accuracy, Precision, Error, Standard Deviation, and reading a dial caliper MONDAY! |
Weekly Outline 3/19-3/23
Monday - Unit 3Warm up:
-What percentage of data values fall within 1SD, 2SD, and 3SD when the data is normally distributed? Activity: -Activity 3.6 Flying Machine Presentations will start after the quiz. |
Tuesday - Unit 3Warm Up:
